BioWhen I was a kid, I loved to write, and I wrote for fun. Now I write stuff I get paid for, and it's challenging and interesting and rewarding and pays decently and is, on the whole, still pretty fun. But I'd love to love writing again, if you see what I mean. I hope to find my way back to my own stories someday. This is me, starting on that journey.
Likes: Stories. Spirited discussion. Magic swords. Evil magic swords. Enthusiasm. Enthusiasts. Chocolate. My garden. Discovering a new author. Hockey, even the fighting. Science. Our national parks. Charming rogues. Cookbooks and cooking shows. Exploring new places. Music, most flavors. Tea, but only tea-flavored. The Metro. Lists. Checking things off lists. Playing piano. Bento boxes. Monastic silence. My house. My family. My life.
Dislikes: Failure to signal. Chocolate flavored with anything. Weeds. Incivility. Incompetence. Intolerance. Injustice. Fools. Damsels. People who fail to uphold the social contract. Often myself, particularly when I’m being a fool, a damsel or failing to uphold the social contract. Newsprint. Nightmares. The travel part of traveling. Thumb-typing. Children in peril. Slurping. Coffee. Rodents. Ballads. Migraines. Those perfume-saturated ads in magazines. Millipedes.
I live and work as an alumni magazine editor in the Washington, D.C., metro area.
Happily married to Dr. Vesperh, an oft-travelling environmental scientist whose work focuses on global climate change research.
Current long-term project: parenting the daughters—15 and 13. Check back in 20 years and I’ll let you know how it all turned out.
